The Price of Fashion

I have been wearing gold bangles on my right arm for several years now. They are on the small side and do not come off. This causes a problem at certain airports. It always amazes me that in New York or Boston sometimes I can sneak through without the bells going off. On my way home from my parents at the Jacksonville airport, I experienced the most invasive pat down from this large woman who must have thought I hid some sort of explosive in my bra. It annoys my friends who always have to wait for me to get screened, but I love my bangles!

The Plantation Shop, Part 2

My big Black Friday outing was to the Plantation Shop, the most amazing store on Amelia Island. I have never seen a store with so many things I want for my home. They just got a shipment of furniture and I am in love...

How cute is this dresser?

I want 2 of these lamps..

or 2 of these..
One of these for each side of my bed..

I thought this little table was so cool, it has a cut out in the top for a blue and white platter.

We had friends over for dinner and then got to spend some time with my parents and Millie.

She was very tired from all the festivities!

Black Friday

When I used to work in retail, I remember being so excited about the day after Thanksgiving, when people start to panic about their Christmas lists and get out to the malls. What a hectic day! I watched my Dad go through the paper so methodically yesterday, making notes on a large pad. I didn't ask what he was looking for...but this morning when I cam out, ready to shop, he decided that my Mom and I could go without him. He hates crowds and I think he just realized what a nightmare today really could be.

But..the deals! I took a peek at the paper, Nikon Coolpix for $88! Is it just the ugly plum color? That would explain it...or does it not come with a rechargeable battery-something to find out because what a pain that is to keep buying batteries.

So, my Mom and I are off to the Plantation Shop, a very civilized Black Friday destination. I will tackle the malls tomorrow. Please be careful of the "deals" you get today and that you don't get trampled on!!!! Happy Shopping! xo

Alphabet Plates

Earlier this year, my good friend Laura Paresky Gould started designing adorable melamine plates and laminated placemats and before she knew it, she had a booming business on her hands, Alphabet Plates. A graphic designer and mother of three, Laura channeled her excellent design talents into whimsical, educational and fun gifts.

The plates have three categories: food, sports and "face it". Dinner time has never been more fun having your little ones eating on their special plates proclaiming their favorite foods, sports or their own likeness.

Have a child obsessed with soccer?? They could have their own plate that looks just like a soccer ball-tennis, basketball and others are also available.

The face it category is so awesome. Using an easy to maneuver design interface, you can create a plate with a face on it looking like your child. There are hair colors, styles and lengths along with eye color and accessories such as hair bows, barrettes or a princess crown. Super cute!

The placemats are very durable and are printed on both sides with a plate, cup and all utensils with each spelled out in your choice of 2 languages (English on the front and French on the back or Spanish on the front and German on the back, etc..) Available in many color combinations, these great gifts are so handy and will help teach your child a few smart words in your choice of 14 languages, even Greek!

Plates are $22-25 and Placemats are $18-20.
Visit Alphabet Plates to check them out.

IPhone Envy

I have been having a love affair with my blackberry for over 2 years now, but the I Phone keeps coming out with the coolest applications and now I am JEALOUS! I heard a song last week and couldn't figure out the name of it or who sang it. Well, if I had an I Phone, I would click the Shazam button and it would listen and tell me all the details and let me download it to Itunes. It took me 2 hours to search online with one phrase I could remember and I finally figured it out...

Here are some apps that I would want if I switched over to the Iphone:

Business Card Reader-take a picture of a business card and it stores in the phone.

Ebay Mobile-no explanation necessary

G-Park so I won't lose my car in parking garages

Evernote-to keep track of all the notes I write all over paper in my purse

Viper Smart Start- the answer to many of my problems. I am always losing my keys or can't find them in the bottom of my bag. This app lets you lock or unlock your car from your phone. You can also start your car with it. Never lock your keys in your car again!

Good Morning America!

Even though I knew it was coming for days, the 4:45am alarm going off was such a shock to my system, I am not really a morning person. But, at least getting up so early would be somewhat fun, the live taping of Good Morning America onboard the ship. Helen and I got to breakfast at 5am and waited for all the families we were in charge of. People were buzzing around with microphones and wires were taped down all over the place.
The sun was barely up...

Sam Champion and Melissa Rycroft from "The Bachelor" were everywhere..

on the Flow Rider...

Melissa on the zipline-very brave

on the Rock Wall

they ended the show at the aqua theater with the live simulcast on the screens. Divers went off the high platforms and Melissa was in her swim suit..she was really hustling from shot to shot. It was so fun and crazy all before 9 am...

Onboard...

We are onboard for the night on Oasis of the Seas. I keep finding the coolest things-most notable the cupcake store.

The white one here looks like Millie!!!

Tonight, a special treat, a Rihanna concert in the Opal Theater. She looked and sounded amazing. Hers was the first concert onboard.

Now, we are off to Johnny Rockets, so hungry and craving a milkshake.

St. Thomas Craft Fair and Oasis...

Another great show today at my old elementary school, St. Thomas Episcopal in Coral Gables. It was so crowded and there were tons of shoppers. It took me over an hour to write out all the stationery orders from both of my shows. The show was outside so the sun was out and by noon, everyone was so hot. I packed up all my stuff and headed to a Beaux Arts meeting. Prospective new members were invited to a lunch meeting. Some of my favorite people were there and I am hopeful that a few will be new members in the Spring!

By 2:00pm, I walked in to work and the stress level was off the charts. I had an hour to catch up with paperwork and emails before Helen and I were out the door and headed up to Port Everglades. When we were still a half mile away, you could see the Oasis of the Seas peeking above all the other buildings in the area. It is HUGE. We got onboard and had a meeting with the Good Morning America people. They are filming live Friday morning and I really didn't realize how much work is done ahead of time. The bulk of their team arrived on Monday and set up shop in one of the rooms with a ton of laptops and printers. We check in tomorrow for an overnight cruise with several groups of foster children from South Florida, who will get to see Rihanna perfom live and then get to be in the background for Friday morning's live shoot.

I honestly am so tired, that I can't believe I have to get up early again and get so much done before I head up there again. Saturday morning I will get to sleep in! I can't wait to post some pics from the ship tomorrow. It really isn't to be believed!

The Champagne Bar that floats up and down..

Cute surfboard seats

The amazing Central Park..almost finished. They planted the entire thing, plants, trees and everything in 48 hours.

The bow of the ship, completely open and featuring the Aqua Theater. The Boardwalk leads up to the theater and has restaurants, a carousel, candy shop and shops.

The skyloft suites overlooking the sports deck

The School Shows Have Started...

It's that time again...my favorite time of the year when all the private schools have their holiday markets. Today was one of my best shows, St. Philips in Coral Gables. For some reason (maybe since it was the 7th time I have participated), I was given the very first table when you walked into the room, very fortunate placement. I was up so late making last minute things. I NEVER know what will be best sellers at these shows...today it was my crystal bracelets and Paper and Ink Designs lunchboxes and placemats. Also popular were Alphabet Plates, my friends company that is so cute. Tomorrow is St. Thomas, my old school and where the bulk of my best customers are. If tomorrow goes as well as today did, I might be able to finally buy myself a new purse-just kidding Mom! I will not be spending my hard earned money on accessories for myself. Maybe for my birthday...

Here are some of my new necklaces...

This Is It

So I am a little slow in getting to the movie theater, but went last night to see the Michael Jackson movie, This is It. I had read about it online so I thought I knew what I was in for, but I was surprised, very surprised and thoroughly entertained. The very beginning of the movie is so touching, raw footage of the dancers before their auditions talking about what an influence Michael Jackson has had on their lives and dancing careers. It is crystal clear that they are nervous, not only for just an audition, but to be in the same room as him, a completely overwhelming thought for these young, hopeful and talented men and women.

I don't want to spoil the details for those who haven't seen it, but it is hard not to enjoy watching the magic of Michael Jackson happen on his stage, even in dress rehearsals. He doesn't sing full out, saving his voice for the tour, but he doesn't need to, you can see how fantastic the show would have been. The original 2 week run has been extended until December and the film has now grossed over $200 million worldwide. If you haven't seen it, it is worth going to.

Finally Arrived...

Well, I have been a little MIA these past few days because things at my part-time job have been crazy getting ready for the arrival of the Oasis of the Seas, the world's largest ship. She cruised into Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale early this morning welcomed by thousands of spectators. The ship is 5 times the size of Titanic, has 15 decks and holds 6,500 passengers!

The fanfare is extremely justified as Oasis is just about the coolest, most innovative ship ever built. There are neighborhoods (Central Park, boardwalk, etc..)

a carousel, golf course, an Aqua Theater, cupcake shop, amazing spa services including a teen-friendly spa, a zipline across the ship along with the usual Royal Caribbean treats-rock climbing wall, ice skating rink, flow riders, Broadway-worthy shows, delicious restaurants and dining and much, much more. For more information check out www.oasisoftheseas.com

I will be on board several times in the next few weeks for fund raisers and will have some close up pics and more details!

Lots of Parties

My weekend got off to an exciting start on Friday night. BFF Cynthia organized a fundraiser to help a local teen's family pay his medical bills. The party was at the Mondrian on South Beach, a spectacular hotel with the coolest bar and pool area.

Newly engaged Cynthia showing us her sparkler!

Sunday was a double baptism. The party afterwards was so beautiful, double cakes..

lots of delicious food..

and a special violin performance by the pool.

I ended the day having rum runners at the Surf Club with Hoby and Christina...the waves were huge and everyone was at the beach!

Monday night, dinner at George's in Coconut Grove for Camille's birthday. It was super fun and at the end, they brought a Nutella pizza with a sparkler in it. It was so heavenly!
