One Weekend..Two Movies, an Opening and a Birthday Dinner

What a difference from last weekend..I actually made plans for this one. Friday night, I attended the opening of City Year Miami. If you haven't heard of City Year, it is an amazing organization where college graduates commit to a year of service and spend that year in the public school system of whichever city they sign up for. These energetic teams are responsible for higher test scores, improved reading skills, better attendance and after school activities that kids are excited to participate in. I have been to several events at a local inner-city school to see for myself just how effective this program is, and it moved me to tears. They provided some serious inspiration to some children who might otherwise be pushed through the public school system. It is really exciting to see this organization grow especially in light of our current hot topic of the crisis of public education.
This was the group taking their pledge on Opening Day. Visit the CityYear website to see if they are working in your community.

Next stop..Wall Street, Money Never Sleeps. I didn't expect the world with this movie, so I was pleasantly surprised that I liked it as much as I did. The scenery is so lush and makes me want to hop on a plane to NYC immediately. Michael looks a little tired (of course, knowing now that we has probably sick during the filming) but that cute Shia Le Beouf was fun to watch. He was great and the Bud Fox cameo was a nice treat.

Saturday, I had plans to do a million things. I made it downtown to my bead store (crazy on Saturdays), got a new Shellac manicure which I am loving, ate sushi with Ashley and then turned my bathroom into kp's salon with a little Garnier. I wanted to try color one more time before I hit the salon and let them do the honors. It kills me that my Mom has very few grey hairs and my Brother, who is 3 1/2 years older than me has NOT ONE grey hair on his head. So unfair!

Saturday night, Ale's birthday dinner at George's in South Miami. This new French outpost of George's in Coconut Grove is unbelievably fun. They hand you champagne right when you get there, are terribly friendly and you leave there having eaten delicious food, dancing in your seat to the very catchy music and in general, having a blast. South Miami has needed this for a long time and I can't wait to go back.

Sunday night..The Social Network. I had to laugh that Amy, my movie partner isn't on Facebook, so I wondered if she would really "get it". The movie did not disappoint, I found it very fast paced, interesting and actually funny at times. The trailer showing for the past couple of months did show a lot, but the movie had tons of details I didn't know about. Definitely recommend...

And ending the weekend with Desperate, Brothers and Don Draper. hooray!
