Real Reality Television

What a triumph! Last night, when they pulled the first miner up in the capsule, it was truly a magical moment to witness. The story of the trapped miners is incredible and to have it all unfold on live television is another kind of reality tv altogether.

This story is not without serious behind-the-scenes drama. When the Chilean Government offered emergency money to the families of the trapped miners, wives and mistresses alike showed up to collect. Some wives confronted for the first time that their husbands even had mistresses much less children by them. Two women had to be separated before serious harm was done.

The miners, realizing the potential profit in their extraordinary story, asked lawyers to draw up papers securing their commitment to stick together, planning on holding out for an exclusive book deal so that they will never have to work again. Pretty savvy thinking one mile underground! What a great story!

Would have loved to seen more credit given to the USA for being the ones who were so successful with drilling down to these men!!

Wow, I had no idea about all of the behind-the-scenes baby-mama-drama involving the miners! So amazing to see this rescue take place. I can't believe how long they've been down there. A true miracle.

Isn't this the type of journalism we deserve...real stories of real people beating the odds. I am amazed over their ability to survive in a deep dark cave...they should hold out for a book deal. I would read their stories...you too?

What I liked is that this was a global effort, and there was jubilation worldwide for their rescue.
