Lost Treasures

Hard to believe the last time I sat down to write was almost a week ago.  Memorial Day weekend, the kickoff to summer, came and went without much fanfare.  I had huge plans to "take back my life" and get SUPER organized.  Well, it didn't really work out that way.  I went to Palm Beach on Saturday with friends and didn't get home until late-so that day was a wash.  Sunday, I started going through things in my bedroom and even though I threw a bunch away, it made a mess of things and I found so many treasures that I have been holding on to for years...

When I saw this patch that I apparently earned when I was around 8 years old, all I could do was laugh.  The thought of me even being called an athlete is simply amusing.

My latch hook Big Bird pillow.  My brother and I took turns with the hooking gadget and yarn to get this beauty finished.  My Mom made it into a pillow.  Now, how can I get rid of that???

This mini Pac-Man game was such a big thing back in the day.  I have held onto this for so long... and it has sentimental value..if my brother read my blog, he would probably ask for this back!

So, I just got started...I am sure I can find some other cool trinkets to share in the next few weeks. And, just to confirm..I am not a hoarder thank you very much.

I Waited One Day To Discuss...

Wednesday night, I worked late and then had a jewelry appointment at 9pm.  Not hearing who the winner of American Idol was before I got home to watch it myself was a serious challenge.  My phone kept ringing and I purposely put my blackberry in my purse in case I caught a glimpse of Twitter or Facebook, no doubt blowing up with the news of the lucky winner.

It was worth the wait.  My favorite from the beginning (and obviously everyone else's with over 66 million votes), Phillip Phillips was crowned the winner.  His aw shucks demeanor and low key vibe was refreshing in a competition where everyone was practically shouting over each other to be heard.

The show has changed so much since it's inception, being the winner actually doesn't mean that much.  Jennifer Hudson proved that fact after being sent home in 7th place in 2004 and then ending up winning a Grammy, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.  The big prize in the beginning was that you got to record your "winning" song, released right after the season ended.  In 2005, when Carrie Underwood won, she and runner-up Bo Bice released the same song at the same time.  When I met Ryan Seacrest at Lucky Strike in Miami, this had just happened.  My friend Brian introduced me to Ryan-so sweet and came up to my chin- I launched into rapid fire questions about why they changed this and he just laughed at me and said "to make more money".  Brian was mortified that I was grilling his VIP guest, but seriously I invested a lot of time watching this show and needed an answer.  I don't think Brian will be introducing me to any more VIP bowling guests at Lucky Strike.

So in the end, Phillip Phillips is the American Idol for 2012.  When he stopped singing his song and started to tear up, I was way ahead of him, .  And then when he broke down and walked off stage right to his Mom and Dad...omg..so cute.  I think both he, Jessica and Joshua will be so successful, I am not so sure it really matters who ended up with the final song.  When I was talking about this with a friend, I couldn't even remember who won last year!

I will miss Jennifer Lopez and seeing her hair and outfits most of all...

Summer Sandals

Summer is right around the corner and I am so sick of all my shoes.  I have two pairs of gold Jack Rogers that have gotten mixed together somehow and I can't tell which one is which.  I am going to toss them in the garbage and get a new pair asap.  The shoes I am loving right now are some of the cheapest shoes I have ever worn, procured in a Junior League luncheon VIP gift bag.  Gladiator sandals...some people got gold and some got silver.  I don't ever wear anything silver, but of course, I got the silver ones.  I have several outfits that they go perfectly with, so they are definitely in the rotation.  They are getting very worn down and I think I only have one or two more outings in them before they too get tossed out.  I tried to look them up and buy more, but they are completely un-googleable..very frustrating.  Here are some fun summer sandal picks I have come across lately.  I think the orange ones are at the top of my list...

Steve Madden Saahti Sandal $69.95

Sam Edelman Gigi Sandals $64.95

Ivanka Trump Vance Platinum Sandals $134.99

Burberry Colorblock Sandals $395

Gucci Gwen Leather Slingback $660

K Jacques St Tropez Leather Sandals $250

Musa Leather and Chain Link Sandal $230

Talbots Two Tone Leather and Canvas Sandal $88

Memorial Day Weekend is in a few days!  So excited even though for the first time in years, I don't have any solid plans.  I am determined to organize my apartment..that is the plan!

Scallopped Edges

There is something about scalloped edges that is so appealing.  They are everywhere, in fashion, design and especially nature.  The name "scallop" is derived from the Old French escalope, which means "shell".  It has been used as a symbol of fertility and has been associated with pilgrims. The scallop is also New York's state shell.

Once you start looking, you will see that they are so popular and pop up in the
most unusual places!

Can't Resist Hearts...

Not that I should be promoting anyone else's jewelry..but these stopped me in my tracks.  They are so cute and fun..I love them separate or with several at a time.  Of course, I die over the pink and green one..and I know I will not be alone.  Pinterest is going to drain my bank account...too much exposure to too many things!

The bangles are $65 and $85 depending on size and the ring is $45.  They come in a bunch of colors.

The Best Ebayer...

Not sure about you, but I have so many things I would like to put on eBay but simply do not have the time or patience to do it myself.  My friend Brooke has been a devoted eBay seller for years and has just opened an eBay store.  She is now accepting items to sell and you can send them right to her to get started.  She has a 100% perfect feedback from over 2400 transactions, which is almost unheard of in the eBay world.  Her attention to detail and accessibility is fantastic.  She is the only person I would trust to sell my things.  This is her info:

Tinsley's Southern Charm Book Signing

Last week, I was lucky enough to be a hostess for Tinsley Mortimer's book signing at Neiman Marcus in Coral Gables.  Hosted by Hpnotiq Harmonie Liquor, this fun event took place right in the middle of the amazing shoe department.  There was a DJ and lots of sweets all around.  Her book Southern Charm is such a fun book, I have already finished it!

The Hpnotiq bottle...all blinded out

Macaron and cake pop topiaries...

Signing some books...

I brought Tinsley a little trinket from me and she put it right on.  Love this picture of her wearing my pink disk bracelet!!!  She was so sweet at the party and the tiniest thing you have ever seen!  Her book should  definitely be on your summer reading list.  You can buy Southern Charm here.

Happy Mother's Day

This weekend, my parents came down to Miami and brought our little Millie with them.  She got to stay with me in my apartment.  She took a little while to check everything out...

Became an expert at riding an elevator...

Checked out the boats and the waterway..

And kept me company while I got everything ready for Sunday.  I hosted everyone for brunch and was so excited to try out some new recipes...

The biggest hit was the Barefoot Contessa's berries soaked in Limoncello with greek yogurt, honey and lemon curd whipped together.  The result is a fresh tasting fruity concoction.  It was delicious...

The bluebery cake..I loved this so much that I kept the piece that my nephew barely touched for breakfast tomorrow.  This was the recipe I had a couple days ago on the blog.

My french toast casserole..I used a new recipe and it was yummy but a little tricky to serve.

My new chairs..finally all purchased.

Me and my Mom.
Happy Mother's Day!!!
